Information about upcoming and past meetings
As I mentioned at our last meeting, we were going to get together for a holiday celebration some time in Dec. We decided to get together Dec 6th, along with the SQL Server Innovators guild, at Bailey's Pub & Grille and have some fun. If you plan on coming please register at http://gspdevssig1112.eventbrite.com/ . Note that this is the Tuesday before we normally meet.
It starts at 6:30ish and ends at whenever.
Special thanks to FGP for sponsoring this event.
The 10/18/2011 GSP Developers' Guild meeting is cancelled because I could not line up a speaker in time. I'll see you at our next meeting Nov 15th.
Devlink – August 17th- 19th
HTML 5 Web camp in Alpharetta – Aug 4th
ReMIX South in Atlanta – Aug 6th
Rest Fest in Greenville- Aug 18-20th
Friday June 17th, 2011 there will be a Windows Phone Garage event. It will be held at Immedion at 78 Global Drive, Suite 100, Greenville, SC. There are only 40 spots, so register now at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1792690987/
The idea behind the Windows Phone Garage is simple. Come out, install the tools, learn how to write a Windows Phone application, then build one. Best of all, it's free, and everyone is invited! The second half of a day is an open lab, and assistance will be available. It's a great way to get familiar with the platform and walk away with a completed application!

With Tech Ed going on this week, I was unable to get a speaker. Since I had so much going on in my life these last couple weeks, I didn't have time to prep something myself.
By the way, my son graduated from Clemson University Friday!!! If anyone is looking for a super, sharp developer with experience at entry level pay, let me know by leaving a comment below or by sending an email via the contact us page and I'll have him contact you. You'd be hard pressed to find a better prepared new college grad in Computer Science than him.
Remember when we used to get a prototype up in hours and get the app out to the department in a few days? Those days are coming back. Guild founder Bill Jones will develop a simple app before our very eyes and then tell us "what's in there" when we create a Visual Studio LightSwitch project. Since LightSwitch implements the UI in Silverlight, creating Windows, web or applications to support both is a deployment decision. LightSwitch has pros and cons, but you do end up with a Visual Studio project that can be maintained independently. If you need something fast or need to automate configuration or administration, you really should know about LightSwitch.

Tuesday Jan 18th, Chris Eargle will discuss both good and bad techniques that he has seen used in .NET applications. He will demonstrate those that are good, rant against those that are bad, and reveal those unknown to many. Whether a novice or a seasoned coder, you will find something useful, or perhaps even wicked, that you can do with C# and the .NET Framework.

We will not be having a meeting in December. Have a merry Christmas and we’ll get together the 3d week in January.
