Aug 17th Meeting

Chris Williams has had enough of the cold and is moving back to the upstate just in time for our August meeting. He will be presenting 'A Tour of Windows Phone 7 and XNA 4.0'. In this talk, he'll cover what's new in XNA 4.0, especially as it pertains to Windows Phone 7. He'll cover phone features, using the emulator and how to take advantage of the various sensors (like the Accelerometer) and features (MultiTouch, Gestures, etc) in your games.

Chris Williams is a Principal Consultant for Magenic. He is the founder of several .NET User Groups on the east coast, and the Twin Cities XNA User Group and Twin Cities Developers Guild, both in Minneapolis, MN. He is a rabid blogger at BlogusMaximus.net, author of the very popular NINE Questions series and owner of the VB Community site www.ILoveVB.net.

He's also a DirectX / XNA MVP, MCT, MCSD (.NET) Early Adopter, MCAD, Director of the INETA Speakers Bureau, freelance game developer, occasional author, tech editor, conference speaker, vintage arcade game collector and INETA Community Champion. He also plays a pretty mean guitar in Rock Band.

Lastly, yes, the rumors are true, he loves Visual Basic so much he even named his dog VB.

The pizza and meeting are free for anyone interested in .NET technologies. The pizza this month is being sponsored by TekSystems a professional staffing and services firm.  For a map to Greenville Technical College visit our site http://www.gspdevelopers.org/ContactUs/tabid/57/Default.aspx. To ensure that you don't get ticketed while you are at the meeting, be sure to put a parking pass on your dash.

Windows Phone 7 Training

Are you looking for the best place to learn how to develop for Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 platform?  Visit the Firestarter web site to find out how to get free training and a hands on workshop on Windows Phone 7.

Software Development Project

We are building a Silverlight Quiz program, named SmartieFly for the Roper mountain Science Center. We already have a fairly good number of volunteers, but if you are interested in helping send me an email letting me know. You can do that using the comments form.

The group is currently waiting on me to finish the design document and push out the skeleton of the project. Since I am new to Silverlight it has been slow going. I think I am getting close and by next weekend I should have something posted.

Jim Bell and Chris Walling are investigating controls to handle multimedia.
