Patterns as an Anti-Pattern?
Here is an interesting take on patterns from SD Times:

If nothing else it may start a debate and have more people look at patterns.

Re: Patterns as an Anti-Pattern?

I agree there were some different ideas on patterns than you typically hear. Just because it is a pattern doesn't mean it is good or even applicable to a certain situation.  I still think most developers would do well to understand patterns.

Heck yeah, understanding patterns and seeing how different problems have been solved through their use can do nothing but make you a better programmer.

I think the concern some people have with patterns is that many developers only learn the recipes to use for particular situations, but they don't learn the pros, cons and possible gotchas that come along with the patterns. Also, patterns need to be constantly evaluated to see if they are still pertenent based on your development environment as well as current best practices.
